Fall Immune Health

FALL AND IMMUNE HEALTH
Can you believe it's Fall? With Fall, comes many immune challenges- coughs, colds, flu and whatever else is thrown our direction. They key to immune health is to be prepared before you are sick. That means having a strong immune system already in place BEFORE the body is exposed to toxins. To accomplish this means focusing on key areas of health like:
- NUTRITION- Consume organic fruits and vegetables, and organic meat and grass fed beef, lots of filtered water, cut down on alcohol use, eliminate sugar and all fast foods or processed food from the diet.
- EXERCISE- Aim for 30-45min of moderate exercise everyday. For some, exercise can be a challenge, so do stretches, or walk your street. You can even break this up into 10-15 intervals. When working at a computer, make it a point to get up every hour and MOVE.
- SLEEP- Get 7-9 hours sleep every night. Get rid of the phone and computers at least an hour before bedtime. Use blue filtered glasses when using your devices, since blue light disrupts melatonin production.
- STRESS- Set aside time everyday for you- reading, gardening, taking baths, playing sports, music. Stress is a major killer of the immune system.
- DETOXIFY- Use detoxifying agents to help rid your body of accumulated toxins, from heavy metals, bugs/parasites/infectious organisms, cleaning supplies, noxious fumes, and mold. It is good to do detoxifying at least 3 to 4 times a year. By ridding your body of toxins, you will be increasing your immune system.
- NUTRIENTS- Analyze your nutritional status. Do you know if you are deficient in vitamins and nutrients? This is a great place to start, as it gives you a snapshot of your body's vulnerabilities. Once you have this information, you can begin supplementing with the RIGHT FOODS for your body, and using supplements to correct your deficiencies. In some cases, supplement use may be long term, in others, it may be for short term to get your body back to where it needs to be. To maintain nutrient levels, you need to make a LIFE LONG CHANGE to your diet.
- SUPPLEMENTS- Have key vitamins and nutrients on hand, BEFORE you need it! Some supplements work best at the first sign of illness, like echinacea, elderberry, oregano, astragalus, andrographis, colloidal silver and mushroom beta glucan. Others work best by continuous supplementation before you are sick like Vitamin C, D, A, zinc, quercetin, probiotics and fish oils. Having your medicine kit put together for you and your family before you need it is key because its best to start therapy within the first 48-72 hours of first symptoms.
